The birds are chirping and the sun is shining, but if you are anything like me, then your house is completely cluttered from hibernating during the cold winter. That is why I make a point to clean my home at the start of every new season. I’m not the only person who loves a good spring cleaning though! Doing a big house clean every few months helps keep you healthy by removing dust and other allergens, makes you more productive by removing distracting clutter, and lets you be happier by creating a fresher environment.
We wanted to share some tips and tricks so that you can make the most of your spring cleaning!
Before you start, get inspired by Instagram! There are tons of bloggers who share their organizational methods and ideas that you can adapt to fit your own needs. Here are a few of our favorites:
Start With Your Room:
Your bedroom is the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning, and the last thing you see when go to bed at night. It is definitely one of the most important rooms in your house. That is why this is the perfect place to start your spring cleaning. I like to begin with my closet, because once you clear the clutter out of there, you will get a better idea of what needs to be put away and how much space you really have for storage. Create an easy system for organizing your closet that you know you will be able to follow. Skip the crazy complicated organization systems and pick a simple one that works best for how your brain works. Get Rid of Anything That is Expired:
You probably already go through your fridge and pantry on a regular basis, but what about your bathroom? Go through your cabinets and throw away any old makeup and bath products–these things DO expire! Then replenish all your supplies so that you are good to go for the rest of the season. Restock on toilet paper, soaps, cotton balls–you name it!
Clean Up Your Backyard:
It is almost summer, aka barbeque season! Start getting your yard ready now to entertain. Rake away any of those old leaves, dust off your outdoor furniture, powerwash your patio and get some new plants. You will be much happier getting a head start on this now, as opposed to a last minute panic clean right you are about to host a big party!
Grab A Ladder or Someone Tall:
Clean up all of those hard to reach places, even if it’s a pain. Look up the best way to dust off your fan, wash the grime off that really tall window, and replace all the dead light bulbs. You will feel so much better getting this done and your home will look bright and cheerful.
Get Your Mind Organized:
Organization doesn’t need to be limited to just your home. Get your whole life organized with a fresh new planner. I personally love Bullet Journaling because it is a great way to keep track of all of your events and upcoming to-dos.
