Our Favorite Super Food: Chia Seeds!

Hey everyone! We have jumped on board the Chia Seed train and we want to share with you guys why!
This little seed is more than just a trendy add on ingredient at your favorite smoothie shop—the chia seed is chock full of health benefits!
Chia seeds are filled with powerful ingredients like omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants and calcium. These seeds both boost your energy and help curb your caloric intake by filling you up quickly. As a beauty company we might be biased, but our favorite benefit of the chia seed is that they can enhance and strengthen your skin, hair and nails—who can complain about that!
It is super easy to incorporate chia seeds into your daily diet. One way that we like to eat chia seeds is by adding it to our breakfast via a smoothie or bowl of oatmeal. All you have to do is sprinkle the seeds in! Another great way to eat chia seeds is by marrying it with coconut or almond milk to make chia pudding! When the seeds are mixed with the milk, the seeds expand and get fluffy, gaining tapioca like texture. The process of making chia seed pudding is super easy and the end result is always delicious!

Here is our all time favorite chia seed pudding recipe! Try it and let us know what you think: 

Our favorite basic recipe:

1 cup yogurt (plain or flavored) OR replace half with other thick textured component such as nut butter, mashed fruit etc.
1 cup milk (any type you like)
¼ cup chia seeds
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp honey
Mix together and refrigerate it covered for 1 hour or more. We prep and let it cool overnight.
* we sometimes add 2 spoonful cooked oatmeal to the pudding when serving.

You can easily make your own variations to this recipe by replacing some ingredients with similar textured ingredients: cocoa powder, peanut butter, almond butter, bananas, raspberries, mango, coconuts, etc.

We can’t get enough of this super food but like all things in life—moderation is key. Chia seeds can lead to gastrointestinal problems and can affect blood pressure.
You can still reap the benefits of chia seeds but as always, do your research and pay attention to the recommended serving sizes.
